Disney downtown area is a variety of things and you do not require admission tickets, but having said some specific attractions here require admission fees. You can wonder all of the downtown Disney area go into the shops for free but shows such as the ‘cirque du soleil’ and the theatres you need to get admission tickets.
One day is likely enough for downtown Disney unless you buy tickets to everything there.
Characters in Flight is a balloon ride that we never went on but it takes you up to around 400 feet for a great view of the surrounding area.
