Disney Florida
Animal Kingdom
Description & Accessibility
We took the Disney bus from the Swan hotel to Animal Kingdom.
Like the other Disney parks this one also nice, but some parts was also a disappointment. I thought that the Kilimanjaro Safaris would have been the highlight of our visit and turned out not to be that great, it also was not very long. First we got there too late to get a fast pass time so we waited in a very long line up for around an hour or so before boarding the tour vehicle, a lot of the animals that we are suppose to see where off in the distance or hiding, they put on a scripted skit during the tour about poachers in the area. I have been to two parks that you can drive your car through one in Quebec Canada and one in south western Ontario Canada, and both where very much superior to the Safari tour at Animal Kingdom Disney. But if you have never done one then certainly do it if you go to Animal Kingdom you may be lucky to have more animals coming out closer to the tour vehicles than we did.
We also went to the Conversation station and a petting zoo, the petting zoo did not have very much in variety of animals, not overly impressed with what there was to see at the Conversation station, however you took a train ride to get there which was more enjoyable than what was at the destination, a few animals could be seen along the way as you traveled close to a fence that was part of safari grounds.
We did see the Lion festival show and that was very nice.
The parade down the street happened just after we went on the safari and at that point that side of the street was packed and no good viewing area could be located.
Although we should have taken the time to see all Animal Kingdom had to offer but some sections of the park and shows we never saw as we decided to leave after a waiting so long in line for the safari and not overly impressed with it along with the conversation station.
Accessibility:
The park itself is accessible. The safari had only one position on each vehicle that allowed roll on capabilities, so unless you absolutely cannot walk even with some assistance onto the vehicle then you leave your mobility wheelchair or scooter in an area close to boarding and pick up on the return, since there was someone there with no walking ability, I walked with my wife’s help to the vehicle.
The best part of going to the conversation center was the train ride there and there is roll on capabilities on this train, and you must have your mobility device with you when you get there.
The Festival of the Lion King show was accessible; they ask if you have the ability to walk in, just say no as it likely a longer walk than you can handle, they will route you in through an accessible entrance.
Some amusement rides are not accessible.
