Classic Car Sightseeing Tour
Oct. 30, 2010
Description & Accessibility
This tour was in a 1964 Cadillac convertible, an amazing vintage automobile. The tour company has 3 of these classic cars in their fleet as was mentioned to me by the driver of this tour.
The normal tour is 4 hours but we took a full day tour so we could see that much more which was two 4 hour tours back to back with the same driver and car, which was broke up by a stop at the marina where we had lunch. Lunch cost was not included, and most times people only take the one 4 hour tour which has no lunch, but as mentioned we wanted to do a more extensive tour of the area.
The original website no longer exists, but a search I found with some classic car tour choices…
This is the website page for this tour and the price stated is for a 4 hour private tour for up to 5 people, it would be double if you want a full day.
They do not like taking these classic cars out if it is rainy, the roof does come up and a little light rain is ok, but for a really rainy day they may cancel the tour and either rebook or give a refund. It was suppose to rain the day we had booked but we got lucky and the rain came overnight and we ended up having a sunny beautiful day for our tour.
Expect to get a lot of lookers while touring in this vehicle as it is very few of these classic cars that are still on the road, even in the area of the celebrity homes you will attract some attention in the vehicle.
Paparazzi in Hollywood and the area in which a lot of the movie stars live are everywhere. My wife haddressed up in nice clothes and sitting in the back seat, I had dress clothes on in the passenger side in the front with the driver, and the driver had picked up on paparazzi photographers on our tail, he did manage to take a few turns and lose them. He told me that the usually configuration that they likely picked up on was a fancy car, driver and manager in front with the actor or actress in the back.
We toured Los Angeles / Hollywood and surrounding area, we went thru areas that a lot of the stars live, most of the houses are gated and a lot of time all you see if the top of the houses and the gate, a few are a bit more visible but a lot as mentioned are protected for their privacy. The tour guide gave a excellent tour but tried not to be intrusive to any one he recognized there. One instance when he started to turn down one street then turned away as he saw two women walking there and he mentioned he did not want to bother them. Even in the area of the stars homes we had a lot of eye lookers at us and the classic vehicle we where in.
He would stop at key locations to get good pictures, like the Hollywood sign, Beverly Hills sign and lots of other locations. It was a highlight of our stay in Hollywood, but remember of course a full day tour (which is two 4 hour tours) will have the time to cover a lot more areas then the standard single 4 hour tour, if you can afford it is worth while doing and the vehicle can handle up to 5 passengers so it becomes quite inexpensive at that point.
But even going alone or as a couple it is a very worthwhile adventure to take this tour if you can at all afford it.
This was an interesting sign that we went by during the tour.
Accessibility:
Only if your mobility device such as a scooter or wheelchair is either foldable or can quickly come apart. The trunk on the these classic cars are large, but they also carry blankets & towels in the trunk to use if you feel cool as the roof is generally keep down. You also must be able to get in and out of the vehicle. There is no roll on capabilities for wheelchairs or scooters with this vehicle.
The location where we stopped for lunch (not included and only needed if you take a full day tour) was accessible, and you can use your wheelchair / scooter there if as stated above it fit in the trunk of the vehicle.
