Melbourne
Phillip Island and Ranger led tour
Feb. 25, 2008
Description & Accessibility
This was a private tour by ‘Melbourne Private Tours’
There was a few stops including the Koala Conservation Centre, lunch, and seeing the penguin parade where hundreds of penguins come ashore at dusk each evening. Part of the tour we had a ranger guide join us.
At the penguin parade no pictures or video allowed, from what we where told that at one time they did allow pictures without flash, but the problem was that often people could not figure out how to turn off their flash and then sometimes there was language issues, and it was far easier to control just by banning photography completely as flash photography would spook the penguins when they come ashore.
There is two viewing areas to see the penguins and the best viewing area was considered a premium which you paid additional for, we where in the premium viewing area.
Accessibility:
All areas that we went to where accessible, wheelchairs would be at the front of the viewing platforms for the penguin parade with ramps to get to that location.
Even had someone that came along and wanted to help push me at one location.
The vehicle used did not have roll on capabilities but if your mobility device could be folded or can easily come apart then it could be carried on the vehicle provided you can manage to get in and out of the vehicle.
