Australia Zoo including ‘Hire a Caddie’
Feb. 20, 2008
Description & Accessibility
This is the famous Australian Zoo, Home of Steve Irwin ‘The crocodile Hunter’ who made the zoo famous through out the world. Unfortunately Steve is now the late Steve Irwin but his family still runs the zoo.
There is a large amount of area to tour here and expect a lot of walking involved and expect to spend the whole day here.
One of the highlights of going here is the show they have in the Cocoseum, you do not want to visit the zoo with attending this show.
Accessibility:
Yes the zoo is accessible but it is such a large area to cover that it would be tiresome for someone to push you around the whole day. Now there is options however, they have a service called ‘hire a caddie’ where you get a private tour guide for the day and you are driven around in a motorized golf type vehicle, you get a guided tour and no pushing and no walking (unless you want to take part in the feeding of the elephants where you have to stand and they eat out of your hand. However the ‘Hire a Caddie’ service is an additional cost…
If you have a motorized mobility device then you will be ok, they also do have wheelchairs and motorized scooters that can be rented for the day, but always check in advance to see if one can be reserved or if it is on a first come first serve basis.
We felt the hire a caddie tour service was great, it solved the getting around issue, no one had to push me, and we had a great informative tour of the zoo.
Of course you still have to arrange a ride to and from the zoo.
