South America Cruises
Leg 3
Rio De Janeiro, BRAZIL
March 8, 2013
Description & Accessibility
Beware there where warnings given on the ship regarding Brazil and further warnings about Rio de Janeiro in particular.
Do not where any jewelry, expensive watches and do not make yourself stand out by having things of obvious value on you that attracts thieves. Where normal street clothes.
Some areas of Rio de Janeiro are not safe for citizens and as a tourist stay away from unless in an organized tour. Other areas are generally safe with some common sense.
This is a city that you remember and enjoy just beware of some common sense and ahead to the recommendations to not make yourself stand out to thieves.
One lady I heard that a necklace she was wearing stolen and she had a bruised neck from where they tore it off, well she should have listened and wore no jewelry.
I was going to take a city tour through the cruise line but my wife really wanted to see the Christ redeemer statue and it looked like there was going to be some accessibility issues there so I let my wife do this tour and I stayed on the ship and when she got back we both went and looked through a shopping area at the port pier itself.
Next time I am in this city I will likely arrange and take a private tour here.
