Description & Accessibility
This was where cruise leg 2 ended and cruise leg 3 started.
The cruise ship was a bit late arriving into port and getting cleared.
We had a privately booked tour here that was booked through…
You had to take a free shuttle bus from the pier to the terminal building. Long lineups of people from ship trying to get a shuttle to terminal building.
Yes the shuttle buses in principal was wheelchair accessible. The accessible entrance was at the rear / middle entrance.
The ramp had to be manually pulled out by someone. The angles could vary significantly from a perfect roll on angle to an unworkable angle. The driver offered no help but workers on at the pier or at the terminal assisted with this.
Coming back to the ship the angle was absolutely perfect at the terminal and easy roll on but when arriving at the ship with no sidewalk the angle was impossible to do on your own, and workers at the ship assisted in lifting my mobility scooter down.
Improvements on these is really needed.
We ended being late for our tour and the tour guide was waiting when we got there holding a sign with my name on it.
Our guide and driver was excellent and even though it was not their fault that we arrived late they still gave us our full tour time. Although during that last 40 minutes someone where they rented the van from kept calling their cell over and over again wanting the van back, the guide said not to worry.
They used a mini van which was the perfect vehicle that could carry my travel scooter and was not too high to transfer into.
There is an above ground Recoleta Cemetery that is absolute must see you can’t go to Buenos Aires without making a stop here it is that unique.
There is an accessible entrance to this but it is not that obvious, the main entrance has steps, but there is a unlabeled closed gate about a half a block away, the guide asked the people / security at the main gate and someone came and opened it, but it not kept open.
If you ever saw the movie ‘Evita’ this is where the real Evita body lies.
Argentine government building also called ‘the pink house’.
Center of the building top balcony is where Madonna sang ‘Don’t cry for me Argentina’ in the movie Evita.
There was areas I would have liked to seen more of and I would use the same guide again if and when I ever get back here.
