Description & Accessibility
Ushuaia is claimed to be the most southern city in the world.
We took a tour booked through carnival here Penguin Rookery, Sea lions & Beagle Channel Cruise.
The boat that took us on this tour was just up the pier from the cruise ship. It was a bit of challenge getting on the tour boat as there was two boats tied side by side and a extremely steep ramp getting from the pier to the boat to the point it was just not save to roll down on a mobility scooter or wheelchair so with assistance I walk with hand rails which was not 100% solid but still not too bad down the ramp, workers then brought the mobility scooter down.
Coming back after the tour we docked at a different dock nearby that was level entry and I could ride the mobility scooter off the boat although certain able bodied people where complaining that they now had to walk an extra block or two to the cruise ship but it was by far the safest for all the mobility impaired passengers on this tour which would have been better when we started the tour. After the 5 hour tour the able bodied people where in such a hurry to get off that those of us that had any mobility issues decided before we even got to dock that we would just wait until the rest got off first.
The workers there will assist in getting on the tour boat no problem there plenty of help, it is the impatient able bodied people that are in such a rush sometimes.
During the 5 hour tour we saw plenty of birds and sea lions as well as an island full of penguins, along with great scenery, although lengthy it was a worthwhile tour.
After the tour we took a look around the area close to the pier and did some shopping.
Accessibility:
Depending of where the tour boat is docked you may as I did have to deal with a very steep ramp from pier to the tour boat.
The city area around the port is mostly accessible, there is a upper shopping street and it would depend on what kind of mobility device you have rather or not you should attempt getting to the upper street. I did not go to the upper street as it was questionable if the angle to it was safe for a travel scooter. My wife walked up to the upper street while I stayed down on the lower streets.
