Description & Accessibility
Valparaiso, Chile was the end of leg 1 of the South America cruises and the start of cruise leg 2.
Please read the ‘On the Carnival Splendor‘ regarding getting on and off the ship at this location.
The actual terminal building was several miles away, and you had to take a shuttle to the terminal building before going anywhere else. Sad because about a block away you could get into town by foot but no one was allowed to take that route and had to proceed first to the terminal building.
This was however one of the few locations that accessible roll on transportation was available between the terminal and the pier, a roll on accessible small van was available to transport mobility impaired passengers between the pier and the terminal.
We had a privately arranged tour at this location booked through…
This was taken at one of the stops on the tour as you can see how close that was to the ship yet no one was allowed to get to the ship this way but had to go to the terminal building which was several miles away from the cruise ship.
We had a stop at Vina del Mar where a floral clock existed.
We also took a drive through the country side where wine making / tasting was…
You also had an opportunity to buy wine that they made there.
The guide and driver where absolutely great and we saw a lot of Valparaiso area.
Unlike the transfer vehicle from pier to terminal the van that was used for the tour was not roll on accessible but your mobility device could be brought as long as it was foldable or could easily disassemble.
