Description & Accessibility
Depending on which dock your ship goes to you could either be right in town or just out of town, if you are at the dock just out of town as we where there was a free shuttle bus that would take you into town, certain buses are wheelchair accessible but you may have to wait a few buses before the accessible one comes along.
Our original intentions was to wonder around town and perhaps try out the Mount Roberts Tramway that goes up the mountain to check out the view form up there
When we did get into town there where many tour booths along the street to take tours if you wanted that and not pre-booked with the cruise line. As you can see a different cruise ship had the dock right in downtown.
So we took a tour to Mendenhall Glacier, there was also some waterfalls about a 45 minute walk from the visitor center. We where only in port for part of the day, and the tour was just too short to see everything, we took some pictures around the glacier area walked part way to the falls but had to turn around before arriving there and only spent a couple of minutes at the visitor center.
It was just too short of time to really visit and explore the area well enough. Only one of the tour companies had accessible tour vehicles there, although I did not write down the name but if I remember right it was ‘Orca eco tours’. We went directly to the ship after the tour. We really needed an extra hour at the glacier location and time to explore the downtown area, the time in port was far too short. I suspect that certain other cruise ships may have had a longer stay at this port.
