Las Vegas
Freemont / Downtown
Description & Accessibility
No Las Vegas visit is complete without a visit to downtown Freemont.
This was our 3rd visit to Las Vegas but was the first time we visited the downtown Fremont street area definitely will visit it again on our next visit.
Accessible- YES
From the main Las Vegas strip take the transit bus called ‘The Deuce’ this bus has multiple stops along the strip, it is the double Decker bus and is wheelchair accessible (ramp that the driver can flip down) on the 1st floor of the bus. Prices when we where there are $ 5 for 2 hours, $ 7 for 24 hours these can be bought on the bus or at pay stations located in certain bus spots on the strip. Three day passes can be also purchased at the pay at certain bus stop locations along the strip.
Notes concerning Las Vegas transit:
a) The Deuce bus travels along the strip and to and from the Fremont / downtown area, only 2 hour and 24 hour passes can be purchased on the bus and it must be exact change – no change can be returned to you.
b) On all transit buses – no open drinks allowed on the bus.
c) Wheelchairs generally get on the bus first, and the driver will tie down the wheelchair so it cannot move.
d) There are many other bus routes that you can connect with, and an express bus that travels the strip, but the express bus are the single floor buses and only stops at certain locations on the strip, tickets / passes cannot be purchased on the express buses (as well as a lot of other routes) but either must have been previously purchased on a bus such as ‘the deuce’ or purchased at one of the bus pass dispensing machines located at certain locations on the strip (usually the locations where the express bus stops).
e) the express bus that travels the strip (stopping only at certain spots), also travels to downtown Fremont and will continue to the Las Vegas premium outlet shops, going in the other direction it passes the Town Square shopping area and then to another set of premium outlet shops.
f) the Las Vegas monorail system that travels on one side of the strip are a separate system and passes must be bought as a separate entity from the bus system.
g) all the buses that we took where wheelchair accessible.
h) the transit passes are for unlimited travel on all buses for the time limit on the pass itself. A lot of the regular Las Vegas buses operate on the honor system in that your pass may not be checked when you get on the bus (such as on the express bus) but you are expected to have a valid one on you as pass inspectors come on and off the bus at random.
Downtown Fremont area has several hotels and provides an alternative area to stay off the main strip at reasonable prices. The Fremont street experience, has zip lines if your up to trying these out, several casinos as well as gift shops just like on the main strip. There is a large canopy that is a main attraction here with the famous light show
Live bands play (not certain if it is every night or not).
