14 Day Caribbean Cruise
Key West, Florida
Nov. 19, 2010
7 am – 1 pm
Description & Accessibility
This was the first port in the United States that we came to therefore all passengers where required to be pre-screened onboard the ship before being allowed to get off at this port therefore in effect it reduced the shore time by up to one hour.
Where the ship docked was actually on a navy base therefore no one was allowed to walk into town and had to be shuttled from the pier into town. Also no pictures allowed while on the way out of the navy base, The tour guide warn you about no pictures on the way in or out of the naval base.
We took a one hour sightseeing tour through Key West which was booked though the cruise line.
After the tour we where dropped off at Mallory Square until we choose to go back to the ship when we could board a trolley shuttle for the trip back. Mallory Square had a variety of shopping and was where they dropped off and picked up everyone even if not taking a specific tour.
Accessible: YES
They had accessible vehicles but you should inform the desk on the ship so they can inform the shore service of that fact. On the day we where there the service providers on shore where not aware of several scooter and wheelchair users coming ashore and they had to quickly get their accessible vehicles in service. The one hour sightseeing tour was fully accessible but again they must know so the shore providers bring the correct vehicle. Mallory square was accessible, one mall appeared to only have steps into it but around the corner there was an accessible ramp entrance into that same mall. I cannot say for sure that you may not find a store that may not be as accessible but what we saw most where. They had a few accessible vehicles but still you may have to wait until one arrives as not every one was. Therefore never wait until the last trolley back to the ship. There was someone in Mallory Square coordinating the transportation and can tell you when the next accessible vehicle is coming.
